Local Republicans Earn Top Marks for Tax Votes

SACRAMENTO — Senators Joel Anderson of La Mesa and Mark Wyland of Solana Beach were among Republicans who earned a 100 percent rating from the California Taxpayers Association. Most local Democrats...

in the Legislature generally voted with CalTax less than a third of the time.

The CalTax scorecard was based on votes on about two dozen bills assigned a high priority by the group.

None of the local GOP lawmakers in the Assembly had a perfect score, although most voted with CalTax enough to qualify for an A, or more than 90 percent.

They are: Marie Waldron of Escondido, 92.9 percent; Brian Maienschein of San Diego, 92.3 percent; Brian Jones of Santee, 91.7 percent; and Rocky Chavez of Oceanside, 88.9 percent.

Democrats were assigned low marks. In the Senate, Ben Hueso earned a 33.3 percent and Marty Block a 28.6 percent. Both are from San Diego.

Scores for Assembly Democrats from San Diego were: Lorena Gonzalez, 36.4 percent; Shirley Weber, 30.8 percent and Toni Atkins, 23.1 percent.
